About Sivadwija Seva Samithi
Sivadwijas form part of the Malayala Brahmin Community and they were the traditionary managers (Kaistanikar) of several temples of Kerala. There are 586 Sivadwija families spread over from Suchindram to Kannur. Their customary duties in the temple include the custodianship of jewels and utensils, carrying the idol around and cleaning the Srikovil except Sanctum Sanctorum. Indeed there are regional variations in these managerial functions. In some temples they had a say both in the acquisition and disposal of the immovable assets and in some other places they used to appoint menials subject to the approval of the Uralars. At the same time in Suchindram, Tiruvalla and Tripunithura temples the Sivadwijas are entitled to perform little bit of priestly functions.
